Front Cut vs. Back Cut

There are two different cuts of python available in today's marketplace; front cut and back cut. The back or the front incisions made when opening the skin determine the cut. The production of front vs. back is based on market demand and feedback from past orders. Today, more back cut skins are in demand. There is no quality difference - only personal taste and preference.

Front cuts skins - diamond effect. If the skins are not bleached prior to tanning, the main center scale is off to the sides. Popular uses are belts, boots, and small leather goods and furniture.

Back cut skins - underneath scale is centered. If not bleached prior to tanning, the diamond effect is off to the side. These cuts are also referred to as belly skins and are more popular in high fashion and dominate the handbag industry with their 3 dimensional look.

Bleaching vs. non-bleached - The Bleaching process removes the natural markings commonly known as the diamond effect. This is determined once the skins have been harvested and preparing for the per-color or the crust stage. Both styles are equally available. Depending on your preferences and desire uniqueness within the market place, determine if you would like a transparent natural marketing embedded below the outer color you choose.

Glazed VS. Matte - Glazed skins are also referred to as shiny. Matte skins don't have a glaze and can also be customized to garment grade by adding more oil during the final stages of tanning for a modest surcharge. Determining price. The more mature the python becomes prior to harvest means the wider and longer the actual skin will be. The basic rule of pricing is calculated by the input or food consumption prior to harvest. During the final stage food consumption goes up as the animal requires more input or food to maintain and grow larger. In our industry we measure from the widest point of the skin across in CM. 2.54 CM equals 1 inch. We use the metric system as our universal system of measuring.

Starting a Custom Order - After the sampling stage production orders are given. The typical process of starting a production order consists of choosing the best sizes to use to for the most efficient yields. Roje offers three sizes of reticulated python; Small 19-25CM, Large 26-29CM, and Extra large 30-34CM. Each category is priced according to the input or food consumption and maturity of the animal. Roje specializes in offering our clients the most unique and custom colors and finishes enabling you as the manufacture or designers to truly be the designer and not dependant on what the actually importer holds as stock. Roje also specializes in matching skins or swatches from other suppliers with 90-95% accuracy. The final process for custom orders starts with a 50% deposit to add colors and finishes. This process takes about 2 weeks. After the color has been set to the crust and the skins have dried we then add the total meters of all skins and issue the balance invoice alongside with picture confirmation CITES certificate. Some clients request that a counter swatch is issued prior to paying the balance. Roje facilitates these request, however, this adds extra days to delivery. We issue the standard grading system of 80/20 which means that 80% of your order will be grade 1 and 20% will be grade 2. Often our clients inform us that our grade 2 skins are superior to our competitions grade 1.

About Pythons

According to ancient Greek mythology, a large serpent began killing people and their cattle in the ancient city of Delphi. The Greek god Apollo (Mercury in Roman mythology), when he was only five days old, killed the great serpent with his arrows. When it was discovered that the Python is one of the largest snakes found in nature, it was only appropriate that the species was named after the ancient serpent from Greek mythology.

Pythons live in southeastern Asia, the East Indies, Africa and Australia. The reticulate python of southeastern Asia and the East Indies, and the African Rock Python may grow up to thirty feet in length. Only the giant Anaconda of South America is longer. The Amethystine Python of Australia and the East Indies and the Indian Python of southeastern Asia grow about twenty feet long.

Pythons live in rugged tropical regions that have heavy rainfall and forests, or low dense vegetation. Almost every species swims and climbs well.

All Pythons hatch from eggs and the number of eggs varies with some species laying as many as a hundred. The largest of all snakes is the Reticulate Python. This snake is about three feet long at birth.
